For more than 60 years, the University of New Orleans has been an essential public asset, helping to build and sustain the region’s workforce while developing young leaders. UNO is a proven educational and economic development resource meeting the needs of New Orleans and the entire Gulf South region.
The goal of the University of New Orleans is to provide excellent, affordable undergraduate and graduate education, which meets the needs of the metropolitan community we serve, as well as the larger national and international community. The University is committed to providing high-quality education and research opportunities for students and faculty through partnerships with government, industries, and academia.
UNO strives to innovate programs and departments, with state-of-the-art facilities and instructional strategies. To stay competitive in an ever-changing world, our programs must be able to prepare our students for success in the 21st Century. Success is measured not just by providing theoretical learning, but also by applying practical knowledge to use cutting-edge tools.
Recently, UNO graduates have the highest early career salaries of any university in Louisiana. Coupled with the US News and World Report ranking of our graduates incurring the least debt, this news demonstrates a UNO education is a tremendous value.
The University of New Orleans seeks support to transform the educational experience of its prominent programs into a national model which would have an enormous impact on multiple industries and student enrollment.
Investing in Students: endow scholarships, enhance the student experience, and expand resources.
Creating Bold Academic Programs: develop a S.T.E.A.M. focused education, increase experiential learning opportunities.
Building for the Future: modernize educational learning spaces, upgrade athletic facilities.
Cultivating our Knowledge: endow professorships and chairs, grow our thought partnerships.
“By helping even more students persist and earn a degree, your partnership can advance increased social and economic mobility among talented New Orleanians.”
~Edward Smith
Program Officer, College Beyond
The University of New Orleans attracts students who are determined, tenacious, and independent. They greet challenges head-on, with a plan of action and eyes wide open. Affordability is important to UNO students and their families, and so is UNO’s impressive job placement track record. We understand what
UNO students value—and we know how a UNO degree can change their trajectories in life. Our goal today is to make a UNO education even more accessible, and to support more students in completing
their degrees.
With philanthropic support, UNO can:
Gift Opportunity: Endow scholarships, fund graduate assistantships, support undergraduate research stipends, enhance educational resources with the support of mentorship programs for underrepresented students.
Impact: Create the opportunity to attract students who may not otherwise be able to attend college.

“I see the difference that the University has made in the city. I would say that metropolitan New Orleans does not work without the University of New Orleans. It’s that simple. Its impact is that profound on the city.”

From the very beginning, our students come to UNO for a number of reasons, but the top of that list is the high-quality education we provide. UNO is an academic powerhouse that offers undergraduate, pre-professional and graduate programs that prepare students to participate in the global economy.
Some of the University’s most well-known and in-demand degree programs offer an “only in New Orleans” education: hotel, restaurant, and tourism administration (HRT); naval architecture and marine engineering; planning and urban studies; environmental sciences; and the arts. UNO has the only civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering programs in the city, and it has produced more educational personnel in the metro area than any other institution. Many of the programs listed above have been ranked nationally or internationally—and all benefit from continual focus on the student learning experience.
Goals include:
Gift Opportunity: Support the expansion of new degree programs, certificates, and resources.
Impact: Develop S.T.E.A.M. focused programming to provide current and future students learning opportunities which will further advance our partnerships in the business and arts communities.
“In a very short span of time, I went from being a history buff to knowing that I wanted to dedicate my life to World War II veterans. Through UNO, I had the opportunity to be part of
a summer-long excavation of a site in Germany believed to be the location of a B-17 plane downed in 1944.
The partnerships UNO has with other universities and with the U.S. Department of Defense—specifically, the POW/MIA Accounting Agency—are deep and meaningful. My UNO professors saw
my interest and pointed me to opportunities to take that interest to another level, and I don’t take that for granted.”
~Emily Hanish
History, B.A. '21 & History, M.A. '22
Emily was one of fifteen students chosen to join UNO anthropology professor D. Ryan Gray for a summer study-abroad intensive. UNO is committed to offering opportunities like this to undergraduates, knowing how vital hands-on experience can be to students evaluating future paths and discovering their strengths. Thanks to UNO’s ongoing attention to the student experience, students like Emily can approach their ever-expanding career choices with confidence, self-knowledge, and deep understanding.

The University of New Orleans prepares students in the classroom for success in the real world. Our curriculum fosters academic success, experiential learning, career preparation, and workforce development.
When we provide students and faculty with the equipment and facilities they need to do their best work, they show us everything
they are capable of—and it inspires us to find ways to do even more.
The UNO Campus Master Plan calls for several new initiatives, technology upgrades, and renovation projects. Campaign donors
can invest to accelerate our timelines for accomplishing these objectives, putting in-demand resources into the hands of students
and faculty faster.
Priorities include:
Philanthropic resources will enable the University to meet the ever-growing needs of our students, our faculty, and the community.
Gift Opportunity: Fund upgrades learning spaces, laboratories, and our athletic facilities.

The bold impact of the University is rooted in its prominence as a fine teaching institution. The exceptional faculty members are committed to the growth of students both in the classroom and throughout the world.
The University of New Orleans is the only public research university in New Orleans. When the government and other outside partners invest in our creation of new knowledge, it has add-on value in our regional economy and beyond. Research and scholarly engagement of all kinds at UNO also broaden and inform what we share in the classroom with our students, so they are equipped to solve today’s increasingly complex problems.
Our priorities:
Gift Opportunity: Provide lead funding to support research and scholarly productivity by investing in transformative research, supporting community partnerships, endowing professorships and chairs, and funding faculty stipends and travel grants.
Impact: To expand the depth and breadth of our research enterprise so we can continue seeking solutions and contributing new knowledge across disciplines and across the globe.
